The Window II

So I walked back on the cobblestones while the rain was getting harder. I did not notice the thin shadow behind me, my mind was focused on the window. Was she waiting for me? Was she shocked after what I had done for her? My heart was beating stronger the closer I approached her house. My hand was shivering in anticipation when I knocked at her door. Someone draw back the curtains, it was her. then she opened the door and embraced me.

“I did not expect you back so soon, my beloved Scout”, she purred and her hand touched my shoulder and then my breast.

“Sweetheart, I must tell you… “, I started and stroke her long black hair while her big eyes like a reindeer looked at me. “Your captain will not come back. He will run into a trap. You are free!”

“You are my hero”, she whispered into my ears. A sudden sound alarmed me and I got up and opened the door. There was a thin blonde maid. looking anxiously at me. “I… I am sorry, I, er… wanted to as Madam if she wants a tea.”

“It looks to me like you were listening at the door, bitch”, I replied and simultaneously I touched the knurled knob of my sword.

“Let her go,”, the girl with the long black hairs said, “I know her well, she is harmless.”

I was really not sure about that and being a good scout for many years I realize when something smells fishy, but I trusted my lovee and i still trusted her many years later, after we married. Our love was a symbol for the empire, so many relation broke but ours seem to last forever. But while she sat in her big house and waited for me to come home after my various missions, something happened and I did not realize the beginning of the end.

“I love you so much, you are the love of my life”, she often said. “But I am a playful girl. Do you mind if I play with others as long as they respect you as my wife?”

“I trust you more than anyone, my wife”, I said, “and I want you to be happy. So often on my missions I feel alone, so if you don’t mind, I will take one of my warrioress into my bed. None of them of course can compare with you, but in a dark night nobody wants to be alone.”

So I had to go on many missions as a scout and indeed, I was a good scout. But all this work led me away from my wife and the times I was away where much longer than the time we spent together. All these lonely nights I spent alone in my tent, because nothing could compare to her.

The mission took much longer than expected and I returned after another year. When I finally returned, I got arrested. I was put into a dark cell. the next day the magistrate of the empire visited me and told me, my days where numbered.

“We found out that you lured the captain into a trap, scout. One of our agents watched you and heard you saying that you lured him into a trap.”

“But my wife will revoke your decision”, I replied with a voice cold as ice. “You can’t keep me here!”

“Your wife? We don’t think so. She and her new lover seldom get out of the bed, it looks she has a new wife!” The magistrate laughed. “You, Scout, will be burned tomorrow!”

When the sun rose on the courtyard all I did see in the crowd was that thin, blonde girl, watching me die. My wife was not to be seen…..
